The claim vs. the reality
- Claimed 3% cashback, actual 3% on the first $2,000 monthly spend
- Borrow without selling: true, you spend against collateral that keeps earning yield
- Up to 5% APY: liquid vaults go higher, Euro Yield currently 11.39%
Real FX cost & conversion spread
The promise is 0% FX on EUR and USD with a 0–0.5% markup elsewhere. In reality a small spread is applied, and the cashback completely absorbs it.
- Baseline market cost: $1.48
- Actual deducted charge: $1.49
- Hidden spread (gross): 0.51% markup during the swipe
The verdict
EtherFi charges a 0.51% spread when you swipe in a foreign currency, but the instant 3% cashback more than neutralises it. Net cost on the benchmark purchase came to $1.45, below the mid-market value of the same basket. Stay under the $2,000 monthly cap and the card pays you to spend.
Score: 9.2 out of 10
Strengths
- Highest instant base cashback in the test at 3%
- Spend against collateral that continues earning in a vault
- Cashback settles instantly rather than on a monthly cycle
Weaknesses
- The 3% rate is capped at the first $2,000 of monthly spend
- Higher VIP tiers offer weak value for the cost
- A tax ID is required if you want to fund by fiat deposit

Who ranks these cards
I'm Tristyn Pawson, founder of ConsistenC.xyz. Over the last five years I've worked on marketing, development and growth across five crypto cards and neobanks, building at least three of them from scratch.
Alongside that I've run in-depth research on 20+ crypto banks to understand what actually makes someone keep a card in their wallet. These rankings reflect that: which problems are tolerable, and which ones are genuine deal breakers.
